Emotional Eater

This kid is an emotional eater.

Already.

You should see the glee, pure glee that comes across his face when we say "ice cream" or "cookie" or "chocolate".

He "LOVES chocolate" he told me.

Quick learner.

So we took him out for pizza last night.

At Oregenos.

And it would be a crime to leave there without a half caked cookie with ice cream.

So you should have seen his face when it came out.

Its scary.

Really really scary.

He was scooping HUGE hunks of ice cream and cookie onto his plate.

To make sure he got his fair share.

And in the car on the way home, he was soooo hyped up.

Guess that cookie felt good in his belly.  ;)

Wonder where he gets his emotional eating from?

A Boycott

On the way to work in the morning, I sometimes listen to the country music station.
This one station has a "7:10 pay off question".
Obviously, it comes on at 7:10.
People call in, and they ask three callers the same question (or until someone gets it).
The "pay off" starts at $50. And goes up $50 a day for every day the question is not answered correctly.

So here's the thing.
Last time I listened, the pay off was $800.
So that is 16 days of incorrect answers.
X 3 callers a day.
48 wrong answers.
And counting.

I'm just saying, it's obnoxious.
Who wants to listen to a game show that no one ever wins?

It's kinda of a pet peeve.
Either make the questions easier or modify the game.
Until then I quit listening.
And that's final.

Showering

For some reason I thought it would be easy to patch over/blur out body parts.

But it wasn't. 

So I can only post the super cropped, super small pictures of this kid taking a shower.

A month or so ago when my sister was here, she encouraged me to introduce my kid to showering.

He screamed the whole time.

But I saw the potential.

So we kept at it.

Then I bought this cheap-o hand held shower at the BX for $15.

He screamed for the first two showers.

Then I let him be the "hose driver"

And now I have to drag him out of the shower.

He has so much fun in there.

And he hasn't taken a bath in a week.

LOVE night time showers!!!

Joe's Celebration

Yesterday, August 19th was Joe's birthday.

We had yet another opportunity to celebrate his life with one of "his" favorite treats: italian ice.

All of my sisters made the day special too.

We are so blessed to have had Joe in our lives. 

Can't wait to run/talk/eat with him on the other side.

Ear Drop Count Down

There is a good explanation for this.

If you ignore all the scribbling, you will see my awesome attempt at a visual schedule for ear drops.

See the ear drop bottle on the right? 

It has a lid and a label and everything.

And that happy guy in the middle is my child, receiving his ear drops.

Or at least what he is supposed to look like.

Those 5 boxes are the number of doses are left.

This morning after screaming through the third to last dose, Noah said "after this one, we have two left.  And after that, we will have one left.  And then after that we will have none left and we will THROW the bottle in the garbage" (And I will promptly pick the drops out of the garbage cause they are expensive).

And when I looked away for a minute, the scribbles had appeared.

Guess he wasn't as thrilled with the process as I was.

He may be good at math, but art is not his forte.  :)

And running, chasing, and pinning down are mine. 

At least for two more doses.

Lately...

1.  Just a pic of my dog  8.5 years old.  Scared of thunder.  And monsoons apparently.  :)  But he's a good dog.  And I had some extra time and a different lens on my camera, so why not.

2.  I bought a GREAT watermelon.  I googled how to buy a good one, and there are a lot of tips.  (But a round, dull, heavy one, with a yellow circle on it).  Wish I had read this tips years ago.

3.  Our sweet neighbors (and our dog watcher) moved last week.  Boo.  We are happy for them and their new assignment, but we are a tad bit bummed for ourselves.  Hoping for great new neighbors (moving in at the end of the month).

4.  Still obsessed with fitness blender.  I have seen some good results with the strength training & cardio, and best of all, I'm not bored.  That is the best you can ask for!!!

5.  Hulu is great.  We are saving $60 a month and I've been more than entertained with my new shoes.  So glad we got rid of cable.

6.  Wednesday Thursday and Friday after surgery were a tad bit rough.  Not really sure why...mybe the after effects of surgery, maybe just a tab bit (or more) of 3 year old attitude.  Either way we are back to boot camp for a few days.  Three more days of ear drops (I can wrestle him like the best of them).

7.  Noah has been showing some interest in learning how to play the Wii.  He is pretty terrible at it (I mean that in the most loving way), but he will get the hang of it.  It is hard to have the patience to teach that!  Especially with all the 3 year old determination/independence.

8.  I made the BEST sweet and sour chicken.  I did it freezer cooking, and I'm not much of a cook.  But if you make this, make TONS!  I haven't stopped thinking about it since!

9.  Tuesday is Joe's birthday.  Who is headed to Rita's????  :)

10.  Happy Saturday.  One more wonderful weekend day left!

Spin Leader

Get a load of this hunk.

Yup, thats my hubby.

Teaching a spin class.

As an official air force "physical fitness leader".

Who would have throughout it?

I really didn't feel well that day.

But there was no way I was missing that blog-ortunity.

Its kind of hard to tell, but there were actually 6 people there (which is pretty big considering the small unit J works in).

Yours truly helped come up with the routine.

And it was a good one, I must say.

Cause they were all sweating and huffing and puffing.

Including myself and our trusty spin leader.

Glad I get the family discount.  :)

No More Adenoids

Surgery complete.

He was a champ.

He looks kind of evil there in the first picture, but really it went well.

I prepped and prepped and prepped.

Like any good OT would do.

We talked about it

We watched youtube "prepping for surgery".

I showed him pictures of his doctor.

And he was okay with the wrist band *contrary to what the first pic looks like*, and he was okay with the scale.  

he was NOT okay with the tiger hospital gown.

Just like he was two years ago.

So they compromised and said he could go with no shirt.

I don't know what happened from that point on, but they took him and he cried.

And he came with a *reputation* by the time he made it to the recovery room.  :)

He's my little spitfire.  

But we did it.

And he really didn't cry during the wake up period.

And he was the quietest he has ever been on the drive home. :)

Recovery has been okay.

Lots and lots of puking.

I caught one BIG round with my body.

That was really nice.

 Hopefully by tomorrow he will be back to his normal wildly talkative self.

Only minus the adenoids.

A Few Things

1. We have nothing panned this weekend. After 3 weekends of going and doing non stop, I am excited to spend this weekend home. I'm sure there will be a library trip and maybe pizza out put in there somewhere, but no specific plans. Can't get better than that!!

2. We moved the little squirt to a big bed.  One night I realized (very suddenly) "this kid has outgrown his toddler bed"!  So we let him borrow our guest bed, which is sooo comfortable (my first big post-college purchase). He is loving his new freedom and comfort. We even let him have a little book time (alone) last night in his bed and he really loved it

3. We just finished round one of swimming lessons. Let me tell you, this place is worth the big bucks. In 5 weeks, this kid learned so much!  Today he swam about 8-10 feet with just a tiny bit of help. He has learned how to take breaths, and move his arms. It's way more than I expected to get out of these lessons.  We signed up for the next session too!

4. Monday is surgery day.  I'm a little nervous, because I feel like we have just recently turned the corner with doctors and dentist visits with minimal screaming.  So hopefully the old anesthesia mask clamped down on his face won't traumatized him. :(. Poor little guy. I'm hoping and hoping for a good successful surgery and speedy recovery.

5. We have been having some major fruit-fests. Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries. It's so fabulous. One of the major reasons I love summer. The only thing I have been hesitant for is watermelon!  After two not so great watermelons, I'm hesitant to buy any more?  Any suggestions on how to pick a good one??

6.  Since we cut off cable, I've been exploring hulu some.  I have recently gotten back into csi (my old college favorite), and I'm pretty addicted. It requires a bit more attention than I typically given tv, but well worth it. Also loving no (well, very very short1-2) commercials. Saves time. ;)

7. We booked a cruise!!   Sooooo excited. It's been over two years since our last (not-so-great) cruise. We are going in November for 5 days, and we are sooo grateful to Amy and family for offering to keep n!  He is going to have a blast (and so are we!!!).

Baseball

I changed lenses tonight (in prep for swimming lesson stalking) and I was able to get a few good pictures of this crazy three year old in action.

Something that is not easy to do.

But we had a little family baseball game.

He seems to have a bit of a knack for it.

Who knows, maybe it will be his sport.

We taught him how to run the "bases" (also known at a water bottle, concrete poke and pole).

It was so fun to watch the light switch on in his head as he seemed to figure out the whole thing.

And then suddenly he was hitting and dropping the bat and running like crazy.

(and if you look really close you can see Beagle trying to lick out the grill remnants in the last picture.  really nice, right?)

Gotta love watching that little stinker grow!
